Overview
Egypt has always been a hub for routes�westward along the coast
of North Africa, northwest to Europe, northeast to the Levant, south along the
Nile to Africa, and southeast to the Indian Ocean and the Far East. This natural
advantage was enhanced in 1869 by the opening of the Suez Canal, connecting the
Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. The
