Anchorages

There is a good-sized anchorage in Back Creek off the Severn River in Eastport which has good holding in sand and mud.  Be sure to keep clear of the channel as a lot of boats travel back and forth in this creek.  A nice dingy-landing has been established for cruisers along the seawall behind the last row of docks at Mears Marina.

Marinas

Mears Marina - This is one of the premier marinas in the Annapolis/Eastport area.  Most of the slips are taken up by the Yacht Club members, but they do have some transient berths available for short-term berthage.  Long-term berthage of your boat  requires the owners to join the Severn River Yacht Club.

Large gazebo and BBQ area.  There is a small, but comprehensive maintenance yard with a crane to lift boats out of the water or to pull masts.  Their workmanship is first-rate as the owner, Lewis Hartge, is a native Marylander,  from a boating family and really knows boats.  The work must be done by the staff as the boat-owner is not allowed to do their own work.

This marina is home to the very active Severn River Yacht Club.  There is a pool and tennis courts, but you must be a member to use them or have the club extend reciprocal membership to you provided you are an active member of a bona-fide yacht club.  Every weekend from about May- Oct., the marina serves coffee, tea, juice, bagels and donuts up at the gazebo from about 8am.  The marina staff are very friendly and efficient.

Advantages

  • Within walking distance to all cruising amenities in Eastport

  • On the Annapolis side of Back Creek, so it is an easy walk across the Spa Creek bridge into the city

Disadvantages

  • Small haul-out yard

  • Not allowed to do your own work in yard.

Port Annapolis- This marina is located on the East side of Back Creek and is usually the marina of choice for cruisers that need to do some work on their boat.  It is also the home of the Seven Seas Cruising Association (SSCA) Annapolis Gam in October.

The marina has a nice pool.  There is a good boat maintenance yard with a travel lift where you can do your own work or hire it out.  There are several repair shops in the complex and around Eastport and Annapolis.  Small store which sells basic grocery items.

Bert Jabin's Marina- This marina is located at the head waters of Back Creek.  It has a good yacht maintenance yard and travel lift.
